HARTINGTON, Neb. -- A preliminary hearing for Carrie Jones took place in Cedar County Court in Hartington Wednesday afternoon, revealing new information about her alleged involvement in the quadruple murders that shook the northeast Nebraska community of Laurel.

Jones is charged with first-degree murder of Gene Twiford, tampering with evidence, and accessory to a felony.

During the hearing, the state called investigators from the Nebraska State Patrol to testify about key information regarding the case.

Prosecutors believe that Carrie Jones was not present for the murders, but did provide aid to her husband after the killings by tending to his wounds and disposing of his burned clothes.

The prosecution and defense questioned the witnesses, subpoenaed by the state, to provide a detailed timeline of the events leading up to the killings, during the killings, and after.

During the hearing, a possible motive was presented as investigators say that jones told her husband that Gene Twiford was allegedly harassing her.

During testimony, messages between Carrie and her husband regarding the alleged harassment from Gene Twiford were presented in evidence.

Until the next hearing, the judge ruled that her bond will continue as previously set.

Jones is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 27 in Cedar County District Court.
