NFAT needs $297,000 by Feb. 28 to receive matching funds from Carson Foundation

NORFOLK, Neb. -- The clock continues to tick closer to the deadline for North Fork Area Transit.
The area non-profit has raised $203,000 this month, according to its website, but has not yet reached its goal of $500,000.
NFAT has until Feb. 28 to reach its goal in order to receive a matching grant worth $500,000 from the Johnny Carson Foundation.
If they are unable to meet this amount by the deadline, the grant would no longer be offered. The organization will receive either the full $500,000 or nothing.
It comes at a critical time for the transit service as they try to get back on their feet, after their former general manager, Jeffery Stewart, was accused of embezzlement in December 2022.
Due to a lack of funds, NFAT suspended its operations back on Jan. 6 and launched a fundraising effort to get the system going again.
Should they receive the grant, NFAT has indicated they would be able to resume operations once again.
