CROFTON, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska man was identified as the victim of a fatal crash in South Dakota last week.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, 76-year-old Joseph Tramp III of Crofton was killed in a crash last Tuesday near Beresford, S.D.

South Dakota officials said a semi was eastbound on Highway 46 when the driver swerved to avoid a pickup pulling into a private driveway.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol said the semi then crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound semi.

Tramp was identified as the eastbound semi driver. Officials said he was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was declared dead on the scene.

The westbound semi driver, 38-year-old Dustin Aspaas, is expected to survive despite suffering serious injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.

According to investigators, one of the trailers contained ethanol fuel, which led to the highway's closure for approximately six hours while a hazardous materials team responded to the scene of the accident.
