WINSIDE, Neb. -- Authorities are investigating an accident that killed one person on Wednesday near Winside. 

The Wayne County Sheriff's office said they responded to the two-vehicle accident around 3:50 p.m. on Highway 35.

The accident was about 4 miles south of Winside, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said that a vehicle heading south collided with a vehicle that was heading north, resulting in disabling damage to both vehicles. 

The Sheriff's Office said this cause the highway to be closed for a brief period of time. 

One of the driver's was taken to a medical facility for treatment for their injuries and then they were released.

The other driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said they will not be releasing the victim's name due to them being a minor. 

The Sheriff's Office said that weather conditions and lack of seat belt usage were considered factors in the fatality. 

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Winside Volunteer Fire Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation. 

The accident remains under investigation.
