NORFOLK, Neb. -- An annual event in Norfolk helped raise awareness for breast cancer on Saturday.

"For The Girls" annual fundraiser has been taking place since 2012 in northeast Nebraska. The signature event helps women with the fight against breast cancer by supporting their medical, emotional, and educational needs.

They accomplish this by providing funds to enhance services through area health care providers and supporting research.

The 2023 Committee Chair Makala Williams said being able to put an annual event on to raise money for the disease is a blessing.

"All of us in northeast Nebraska and beyond probably either have been touched by breast cancer or know somebody close to us that has been touched by breast cancer," Williams said. "When we raise this money, most importantly, is that a majority of it stays local."

The event was held at Courtesy Ford of Norfolk.

Since the start of the organization, over one million dollars has been raised.
