HARTINGTON, Neb. -- Authorities have announced the name of the victim that died in a shooting near Hartington last week.

Officials said the man that was shot near Hartington was 31-year-old Israel Matos-Colon, of Michigan. His next of kin was reportedly notified of his passing

The Nebraska State Patrol said, on Thursday, they were able to release more information about the shooting that happened just north of Hartington on Wednesday morning.

20-year-old David Phillips of Kenner, Louisiana has been lodged in the Cedar County Jail for second-degree murder, possession of a stolen firearm, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

NSP said the Cedar County Sheriff's Office got a 911 call regarding a shooting not too long after 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

CCSO said they responded to the scene. Authorities said the scene was a tower work site near the intersection of Highway 57 and 885 Road, about two miles north of Hartington.

Officials said several crew members working on the tower were present at the time of the shooting.

It was also reported that other crew members attempted life-saving measures on the victim.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Yankton, where he later died due to his injuries according to the NSP.

NSP and CCSO reported that the Sheriff's Office has requested that the State Patrol conduct the homicide investigation.

According to investigators, the preliminary investigation led them to believe the shooting happened during a workplace argument between the Phillips and the victim.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time so that authorities are able to notify the family. The NSP said they are still working to locate the family for the victim.

This is an ongoing investigation.
