Iowa schools receive false shooting calls
IOWA -- Multiple school districts in Iowa have reportedly been receiving false shooting calls on Tuesday.
Officials with the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center in Iowa said they received a "swatting call" for a reported shooting at Clear Creek Amana High School in Tiffin around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A "swatting call" is a false report made to law enforcement that causes a large response from them.
Authorities said they arrived at the school shortly after and investigated the area before determining that the call was not credible. They reported that there was no active shooter at the school and no cause for concern there.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said there was no evidence that the call was credible and that it did not come from a caller in Iowa. JCSO reported that they will be doing routine school patrols throughout the day.
Officials with the Muscatine Joint Emergency Communication Center in Iowa said they also received a 911 call for a reported shooting at the Muscatine High School at 8:25 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Muscatine Police and Fire Departments along with the Muscatine County Sheriff's Department reportedly arrived at the school and investigated the area.
Officers said they determined that the call was not credible and that there was not armed threat at the school. The school and other surrounding schools were reportedly put on a temporary lockdown at this time
Authorities said that there have been similar calls made to other counties throughout Iowa. Officials reported that they are investigating the situation.
