NORFOLK, Neb. -- Depending on where you are in the region, there could be dramatically different weather scenarios over the next couple of days.

While much of the Midwest is preparing for thunderstorms, including the threat of potential tornadic activity, the western and north central parts of Nebraska are gearing up for another round of winter weather.

Keya Paha, Cherry, Sheridan and Dawes Counties are all in a winter storm warning until Saturday morning. The affected regions could see high winds and up to eight inches of snow.

Meanwhile, Rock, Boyd, Brown and Box Butte Counties are under a winter weather advisory until tomorrow morning, facing the possibility of up to four inches of snow.

Just north of the Nebraska-South Dakota border, several South Dakota counties are facing a blizzard warning. The predicted conditions were severe enough to prompt South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to close state offices on Friday.

With snow comes snowmelt, and with snowmelt comes the possibility of flooding. Cherry County is in a flood advisory until late Friday afternoon due to the potential of snow-caused flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage. The area near Minnechaduza Creek is the area most affected by the advisory.

This all comes a day after western Nebraska dealt with scattered red flag warnings. Now eastern Nebraska faces increased fire risk, with wind advisories blanketing the entire eastern third of the state.

Virtually all of the Midwest, including Nebraska and several of its neighboring states, faces an increased risk of thunderstorms and potential tornadoes Friday and into Saturday.
