WAYNE, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska woman is facing a felony charge after being accused of using an assisted living resident's credit card to make personal purchases.

A family member who had power of attorney for a 69-year-old resident at Kinship Pointe in Wayne reported to the Wayne Police Department that she believed a medication aide was using the resident's credit card for fraudulent purchases. According to Wayne PD, the resident has late-stage Parkinson's disease and dementia.

According to an arrest affidavit, Wayne PD reviewed video of the medication aide, 39-year-old Teri Fettig, making purchases at a Wayne Casey's using the resident's card on five separate occasions in February. The total amount of those purchases was $189.62, according to Wayne PD.

Fettig was also accused of making between $750 and $1,000 worth of purchases at a Wayne Dollar General over the course of eight transactions January and February. According to Wayne County court records, arresting officers reviewed still shot footage of who they believed to be Fettig making at least one of the purchases.

The arresting officer also reportedly received a receipt, later confirmed with a still shot image of surveillance footage, of Fettig making an alcohol purchase with the resident's card at the 4th Jug in Wayne.

A caregiver from Home Instead reportedly told the arresting officer that medication aides often accompany assisted living residents to make small purchases, but that it would be uncommon for a Kinship Pointe staff member to take the resident's card unaccompanied.

In a voluntary interview, Fettig said she made purchases for the resident with the resident's permission and brought them back to her.

Fettig was arrested in Cedar County last month. She faces a felony charge of abuse of a vulnerable adult, in addition to two misdemeanor charges.
