Former Husker offensive lineman Pensick killed in Polk County crash
OSCEOLA, Neb. -- A former Husker offensive lineman was killed in a crash in Polk County on Saturday, authorities have confirmed.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Cole Pensick died in the crash near 141st and Q roads just outside of Columbus Saturday morning at 6:45 a.m.
Authorities said the 32-year-old was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado when the vehicle went through a stop sign at an intersection and left the roadway. Pensick was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pensick graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School before playing spending five seasons in the Nebraska football program under then head coach Bo Pelini.
Pensick played in 36 games, starting 14 games for the Huskers. He played both center and guard for the Big Red.
Pensick was the first player to commit to Nebraska's 2009 class. He was a three-year starter for Coach Dave Svehla's Lincoln Northeast Rockets and dominated the line of scrimmage on both offense and defense. He started his career at defensive tackle before switching to offense after his redshirt season.
An agribusiness major, Pensick earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in December of 2012. He was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2012-13. He was also a 2009 Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall Academic Honor Roll selection.
