NORFOLK, Neb. -- Madison County has joined opioid settlements seeking compensation for the opioid crisis felt throughout the state.

Madison County commissioners voted unanimously to the decision Tuesday, which qualifies them to receive compensation from five organizations.

Elaine Menzel from the Nebraska Association of County Officials discussed the settlements with commissioners.

She highlighted the settlements would seek money from five companies, and be used exclusively to remediate the opioid crisis, including prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery services.

Madison County Commissioner Troy Uhlir said the county expects to receive a total of $117,000 over 15 years.
