WAYNE, Neb. -- A suspect wanted on an assault charge out of Maryland is in a northeast Nebraska jail after being located in Wayne Monday morning.

Early Monday, the Wayne Police Department received information from the Iowa probation office that a man on probation who was also wanted on a felony assault warrant out of Maryland was believed to be in Wayne.

Iowa Probation was able to track the person with ankle monitoring locations in Wayne, and the office related that information to Wayne PD.

The last location received from the monitor was near the 200 block of West 2nd Street. The subject was not located in public view at the locations given, according to Wayne PD.

Phone calls to local businesses in that area led police to believe that the man was inside an establishment.

According to Wayne Police Chief Marlen Chinn, a perimeter was set up around the area with cooperative efforts from the Wayne Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.

A short time later, a man matching the description given was seen leaving a business and was stopped and arrested without incident.

27-year-old year old Derrick Coley was arrested for the Maryland warrant for a second-degree assault charge with nationwide extradition. Coley was transported to a jail facility to be held for Maryland authorities.
