NORFOLK, Neb. – Papillion-La Vista had finalists in 18 of 25 events, cruising to the school’s third Class A state journalism championship.

The Monarchs claimed five individual event championships, three of which were won by Hudson Carrico.

Carrico won Broadcast Public Service Announcement, Broadcast Feature Story and Broadcast Sports Story. It was the first time in each event that a Papillion-La Vista student claimed the state crown.

Papillion-La Vista swept the top three positions in Broadcast Sports Story. It was one of three events where the Monarchs took the top two individual places.

The Monarchs outpaced second-place Omaha Marian, which claimed three individual state titles of their own.

For Papillion-La Vista, it was the second Nebraska School Activities Association state journalism championship in three years, denying Marian its 10th-ever NSAA state journalism crown.

Papillion-La Vista’s title comes a day after Yutan won Class C and Scotus brought home the Class B championship.
