NORFOLK, Neb. -- Norfolk Police said they responded to a residence and took an assault report. 

Around 8:40 p.m., NPD said they responded to a residence in the 900 block of South Chestnut. 

Officials said the woman reported that the prior night, she and 22-year-old Jesse Batt of Norfolk were in an argument that escalated to the suspect physically assaulting her.

According to authorities, the woman showed the officers her injuries and also reported that there was an infant present during the alleged assault.

NPD said officers interviewed the suspect about the assault.

Officers placed Batt under arrest for third-degree domestic abuse and child abuse. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
