NORFOLK, Neb. --  Officials said the installation of the storm sewer at Norfolk Ave. and First Street has been delayed.

The intersection will not be re-opened to all lanes of traffic until May 15 or not too long after.

City staff said they were surprised to learn about the conflict with the Lumen, previously Century Link, communication lines.

Officials said during the design process for the project, they were not aware of the communication lines.

The City of Norfolk said after further investigation, it was determined the clay tile duct bank, was too close to the proposed storm sewer alignment and if excavation took place in that location, it would be compromised and the communication lines damaged.

Officials said after this conflict was realized, the City worked quickly with the engineer and contractor to re-design the storm sewer alignment to continue the work in this area. Work will continue at the intersection this week and next week.
