LINCOLN, Neb. -- The son of a Husker football legend has pledged to play for Nebraska himself.

Keelan Smith, the son of former Nebraska and NFL star Neil Smith, announced Friday that he has committed to head coach Matt Rhule and the Huskers.

Smith is a tight end from Liberty, Missouri, approximately 20 miles from where his father played for the Chiefs.

After a standout career at Nebraska, Neil Smith was taken with the second overall pick by the Chiefs and played nine seasons as a defensive lineman for Kansas City. He then notched three seasons with the Broncos and one with the Chargers.

At 6-foot-3, 200 lbs. Keelan Smith could play tight end or wide receiver at the collegiate level. He had 850 yards on 50 catches for Liberty North last season.
