Another week another water main flush

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Norfolk officials say they will be doing the fourth week of water main flushing starting May 14.
The Norfolk Water Division says the flushing will be done during the evening and overnight hours starting at 8:30 p.m. and ending at 6:30 a.m. the next day.
Flushing will start Sunday night and end Thursday morning.
There will be no flushing done Thursday, Friday, or Saturday evenings.
The plan is for the flushing program to be done June 2.
The areas that will be flushed during the week of May 14 through May 18 will be all areas from Seventh St. east to First St., south of Georgia Ave. to Northwestern Ave. From N First St. east to Benjamin Ave. to Norfolk Ave.
The Norfolk Water Division asks that the public refrain from parking near fire hydrants in the affected areas.
The affected locations will include:
- Lincoln school
- Country Club Plaza
- St. Paul's Church
- Beverly Health Care
- Middle School
- Jefferson School
- Norfolk Jr. High
- Washington School
- YMCA
- Kings Entertainment Center
- Norfolk Senior High
The city says the reason for the flushing program is to remove the buildup of iron and manganese deposits that have collected in the water mains.
The Water Division says that the water is bacteria free, but it's not recommended to consume the water if it is extremely discolored.
Customers that live in the areas that are affected by the flushing program are encouraged not to do any laundry tasks during the flushing.
They also recommend isolating ice machines to prevent any iron and manganese deposits from plugging the ice machines.
