WAYNE, Neb. -- On Tuesday, five players from Wayne State College were named to the 2023 Academic All-District Baseball Team selected by College Sports Communicators – senior Ryan Obrecht, juniors Cade Lynam and Colin Lynam and sophomores Kolt Davis and Jacob Kneifl.

To be eligible for the honor a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 grade point average and have played in at least 50 percent of games played or pitched at least 10 innings this season.

Obrecht, a senior pitcher from Omaha, graduate of Millard North High School, posted a 3.57 grade point average this season majoring in business. On the mound he posted a 3-2 record in 11 appearances and six starts with a 7.20 ERA, striking out 32 batters in 35 innings pitched with 28 earned runs allowed.

Cade Lynam, a junior outfielder from Springfield, graduate of Northeast Community College and Platteview High School, carries a 3.64 grade point average majoring in education. He recorded a .274 batting average this season with 37 hits, 33 runs scored and 17 RBI while playing in 42 games with 41 starts in right field and tied for second on the team with 26 walks.

Colin Lynam, a junior outfielder from Springfield, graduate of Northeast Community College and Platteview High School, maintains a 3.65 grade point average majoring in education. He was named All-NSIC Second Team this season after leading the Wildcats with a .359 batting average, recording 11 home runs and 55 RBI with a team-high 66 hits

Davis, a sophomore pitcher from Johnson, graduate of Johnson-Brock High School, has a 3.65 grade point average majoring in criminal justice. He made 17 appearances on the mound this season with one start and posted a 2-1 record with two saves and a 7.62 earned run average pitching 26 innings giving up 22 earned runs with 25 strikeouts.

Kneifl, a sophomore pitcher from Wayne, graduate of Wayne High School, recorded a team-best 3.74 grade point average in the classroom majoring in human and sports physiology. On the mound this season he was 2-2 in 15 appearances and three starts with a 7.94 ERA. Kneifl pitched 28.1 innings and had 19 strikeouts allowing 25 earned runs.

Wayne State finished the 2023 season at 25-26 overall and eighth place in the NSIC with a 18-16 league record.
