SCSO arrests Omaha motorcyclist after Friday pursuit
STANTON, Neb. -- Authorities in Stanton County pulled over a motorcyclist Friday morning following a reported pursuit.
The motorcyclist, 37-year-old Jesse James Nettell was pulled over while heading west on Highway 275 going 90+ miles over the speed limit.
Around 11 a.m., Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger said he had clocked Nettell going 91 mph in a 65 mph zone several miles west of Pilger.
Unger reported that Nettell immediately accelerated when he saw the patrol unit turning around, and he reportedly started speeding at more than 100 mph on the two lane highway.
The Stanton County Sheriff's Office said a pursuit was initiated and Nettell continued to speed passing multiple vehicles in No Passing Zones as he continued west on Highway 275.
According to Unger, Nettell reached speeds over 120 mph and the motorcycle entered the four lane part of Highway 275.
SCSO said that about two miles west of Spurville Unger was able to pull up along the speeding motorcycle.
Authorities said that Nettell quickly slammed on his brakes and began to drive towards the ditch.
Unger said that both Nettell and his motorcycle were blocked on the shoulder, and Nettell was taken into custody at gunpoint.
Officials said that Nettell refused to cooperate or obey commands. At one point, SCSO said he reached into his pocket, took out a cell phone, and began recording the orders for him to comply and get on the ground.
After several minutes, Unger said that he was physically restrained and placed in handcuffs.
Nettell faces charges for speeding at more than 100 mph, willful reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, resisting arrest, and no valid registration.
Unger said that a knife was recovered form Nettell during the arrest, and reportedly also faces a habitual criminal charge as he has been in prison on more than two occasions for charges that include assault on a peace officer and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
Nettel was jailed pending the setting of a cash bond.
