WAYNE, Neb. – A northeast Nebraska woman accused of using an assisted living resident’s credit card to make personal purchases now faces an additional felony count.

Initially charged with unauthorized use of a financial transaction device $500-$1,500, a misdemeanor, 39-year-old Teri Fettig’s charge was upgraded a felony charge to reflect alleged charges ranging from $1,500-$5,000.

Fettig was already facing a felony charge of abusing a vulnerable adult and misdemeanor criminal possession of a financial transaction device.

Fettig is currently free on bond, having paid 10 percent of $10,000. She previously pleaded not guilty to the original three charges last month.

In February, a family member who had power of attorney for a 69-year-old resident at Kinship Pointe in Wayne reported to the Wayne Police Department that she believed that Fettig, who was working as a medication aide, was using the resident's credit card for fraudulent purchases. According to Wayne PD, the resident has late-stage Parkinson's disease and dementia.

A caregiver from Home Instead reportedly told the arresting officer that medication aides often accompany assisted living residents to make small purchases, but that it would be uncommon for a Kinship Pointe staff member to take the resident's card unaccompanied.

In a voluntary interview, Fettig said she made purchases for the resident with the resident's permission and brought them back to her.

Fettig was arrested in Cedar County in March. Her jury trial is currently slated to begin in July.
