Red Team sends Coach Brahmer out a winner in All-Star Classic
NORFOLK - The Red Team hadn't won the Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic in six years. The best way to end that streak? Get Mark Brahmer to be your coach.
The legendary Pierce Coach helmed the Red Team to a 42-14 win in his final game as a high school football head coach.
While wearing red, the Red Team looked like they should have been wearing Pierce blue, dominating at the line of scrimmage, racking up 229 yards on the ground, and out-gaining the White Team 445-336.
The White Team - coached by Elgin Public/Pope John's Greg Wemhoff - drove 70 yards for a touchdown on their opening drive but were held to just 51 yards the rest of the first half as the Red Team built their lead.
The game saw two All-Star Classic records broken. Norfolk Catholic's Karter Kerkman rushed for a record three touchdowns. He was the first player in the 11-year history of the game to rush for more than one touchdown.
Pender's Quinton Heineman, meanwhile, went 6-for-6 on extra points. His 6 PAT's broke the previous record of 5 set by Aaron Wilken of Norfolk in 2016. Wilken was actually in the stadium to watch his record get broken, as he was an assistant for Wemhoff on the White Team.
