Humphrey Public School moves forward with school bond as public will decide with special election

HUMPHREY, Neb. -- Humphrey will have a big decision to make as Humphrey Public School passed the special election for the school bond at the special meeting on Thursday, June 22.
The board viewed potential designs of the school and the upcoming process Humphrey could see for the school bond.
After a 20 minute presentation to review the renderings and see what the bond could bring the school, the board voted 7-1 in favor of leaving the school bond to the public.
The lone dissent vote was cast by Alan Huettner who understood wanting to rebuild the school but thought, with Humphrey St. Francis considering their options of building, it would be too much growth for the school systems.
The board members who voted in favor said the growth of Humphrey and students opting-in to the school shows the need for more space for the public school.
The bond amount is for up to $39.5 million, but will not exceed that amount.
The vote will take place on Aug. 15 and the vote will be either a mail-in ballot or in-person.
Information about the bond, website, and public meetings are planned to be released to the public as early as next week with more renderings of the potential school available.
