NORFOLK, Neb. -- A park in northeast Nebraska will be closed until next year as it is reconstructed.

On Wednesday, the city of Norfolk announced that the "beginning next week" Johnson Park would be closed.

The city said the park is being closed so its reconstruction project can begin.

City staff will start by removing features of the park including, shelters, picnic tables, poles and its playgrounds.

Reconstruction is expected to last until the spring of 2024.

While the park is closed, the city recommends residents visit other Norfolk parks while the project is underway.
