Right at Home presents $8,000 donation to Norfolk Senior Center
NORFOLK, Neb. – A northeast Nebraska senior center is getting an infusion of cash thanks to a local business.
Right at Home held its annual local fundraiser, in which the business seeks to raise money for a local organization. Co-owners Kristin and Jeremy Starkel chose the Norfolk Senior Center this year, the fourth fundraising campaign the pair has done in the Norfolk area.
The fundraising effort brought in $6,700, with the Starkels donating an additional $1,300 to bring the donation to an even $8,000.
“This is the biggest donation we were able to present, which means a ton to us because we definitely value the senior center and what they’re able to contribute to our seniors,” Jeremy Starkel said.
Norfolk Senior Center Executive Director Cheryl Gesell said the funds will help keep the organization’s Meals on Wheels.
“Ultimately, the client receives the food, yes,” Gesell said. “That’s important. But I think another ingredient amongst their meal that they receive is what they get from that volunteer when they deliver it. That is the ‘hello, how are you, what’s up, what are you doing today?’”
Right at Home provides in-home care and assistance, allowing people to continue living independently at home. The Norfolk Senior Center provides services to area seniors, including social activities and meals. Both the Starkels and Gesell said there is natural partnership between the two entities.
“It’s awesome, that’s my first word of choice,” Gesell said. “I think it’s also just a sign that this community is in it with us.”
