Senior Legion state tournaments kick off in Pierce, Rushville
PIERCE, Neb. -- American Legion baseball state tournaments get underway at the Senior Legion level in Classes B and C on Saturday.
Host team Pierce held opening ceremonies for the Class B tournament Friday night, with former professional baseball player Saul Soltero serving as the keynote speaker.
Soltero, who played in the Padres and Brewers organizations, addressed players from across the state.
Players then competed in a skills competitions.
The Class B tournament starts at 10:30 a.m. with Ogallala and Pierce. That will be followed by Wayne vs. York. Chadron and Wahoo will play at 3:30, followed by Pierce and Plattsmouth.
The Class C tournament gets underway in Rushville this morning, with DCB and Pender squaring off first.
That will be followed by Wilber vs. Malcolm and Imperial vs. Lincoln Lutheran. Rushville will take on Hartington in the nightcap.
