BATTLE CREEK, Neb. – A northeast Nebraska football player with Husker ties has committed to join the Big Red.

Trent Uhlir, whose dad Todd played as an I-back for the Huskers, announced on social media that he will be joining Nebraska as a walk-on in the 2024 class.

Uhlir, who went toe-to-toe with Iowa football commit Kade Pieper in the Class C state shot put this spring, is a running back and linebacker for Battle Creek.

He rushed for 917 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Braves last season. He racked up 61 total tackles as a junior, including 39 solo stops.

Uhlir said he was “blessed” to announce his commitment.

“I’d like to thank Coach Rhule and his staff for believing in my abilities and giving me an opportunity of a lifetime,” Uhlir said via Twitter.
