AquaVenture holds annual 'Dog Day' for Northeast Nebraska dogs
NORFOLK, Neb. -- On Tuesday night, AquaVenture Water Park hosted a dog night. People from the Norfolk area could bring their furry friends for an hour of swim time. The smaller dogs under 20 pounds swam from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. while the larger dogs swam from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
“Yeah we are excited,” said Norfolk Parks and Recreation worker Ron Lamie. “At the end of the season we do a dog day which is a fun time before we drain the pool. Everyone can bring in their dogs and have them play in the water and just enjoy it before we drain the water and say goodbye to the season.”
Tuesday marked the last day that Aquaventure was open for the season, as they plan to drain the pool the following day. The water park does this annually so even dogs get a chance to swim.
“We just thought it would be a great idea and just a great way to close up the season," Lamie said. “People love it. We have a lot of people signed up to do it. Over 100 people signed up.”
Many dogs were able to swim, after normally being told “NO” when it comes to playing in the water. There is however only one serious rule that everyone must follow, no cats allowed.
Registration was only $5 as people from all over showed up to end their summer on the right "paw."
“We are excited because we just started our new recreation program,” Lamie said. “Hopefully in the future we will be able to add more events with all the animals. This is a great start; it’s very popular. A lot of other cities do it so it’s good to be able to jump in on that same page.”
Dogs came in all shapes and sizes to splash around. To participate next year, contact the Norfolk Parks and Recreation Department for further details
