NORFOLK, Neb. -- Resident of Norfolk got an update for ongoing street projects Wednesday.

Progress continues to move forward on Benjamin Ave. and First St. Benjamin Ave. is wrapping up work on the north side of the roadway.

Bo Atkins of BX Civil says the southern portion of Benjamin Ave. began having its concrete removed Tuesday.

Once removed, storm sewer installation will begin, which is projected to start next week. Paving is expected to start at the earliest on Oct. 19, with roadways projected to be open by mid-November.

The First St. bridge and roadway construction is expected to finish sooner.

Logan Angstead with United Contractors said they're nearing completion with the bridge, roundabout, and street. However, they still have some work to undergo before it will open back up to traffic.

Angstead roadway north of the bridge still needs to be completed, before they finish working on the bridge.

"We have a few grinding details to take care of to smooth out the bridge before we can open it up to traffic,” Angstead said.

So long as they don't receive weather delays, Angstead predicts First St. will be open to vehicles around the week of Oct. 16, although work will continue around the area.
