WAYNE, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska man was charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday afternoon in connection to his father’s Sept. 7 death.

According to court documents, the state of Nebraska will pursue a court case against Wisner resident Carl Ruskamp for three felony charges: first-degree murder, use of a deadly weapon, and possession of a deadly weapon.

Ruskamp is facing sentences of life without parole for the first-degree murder charge.

In the arrest affidavit, a 911 call was placed on the evening of Sept. 7 to the Cuming County dispatch which was hung up.

After authorities responded to the call in Wisner, law enforcement arrived to find Ruskamp outside of the house saying he heard a gunshot.

State Patrol arrived on the scene to find Ruskamp’s father Gerald in the house on a couch suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the house and found a “marijuana grow operation” in the home and a side yard of the house.

Authorities found ammunition for a .22 caliber rifle in the room where Ruskamp slept.

An autopsy done on Sept. 8 which showed Gerald’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.

Ruskamp and his uncle were the only two, with Gerald, on the premises during the incident.

Both were arrested for the manufacturing of a controlled substance.

Duane's Class 2A felony which was reduced to a misdemeanor and was subject to a fine.

Ruskamp is set to appear for arraignment in Wayne County Court on Nov. 20.
