NORFOLK, Neb. -- The Norfolk Catholic Knights defeated the Ponca Indians 49-0 on Friday afternoon to move to 7-0 in the season and head coach Jeff Bellar celebrated a milestone win.

With over 40 years in the business, Bellar reached the 400 win mark against Ponca in today’s contest.

“I wasn’t valedictorian in my class so I’ve always been a hard worker and tried to get our teams ready to play," Bellar said.

With that mindset, the Norfolk Catholic head coach has been coaching football since 1982 and has led the Knights to 10 state titles and is the all-time winningest coach in Nebraska football history.

“It’s not just me, it’s everybody involved," Bellar said.

The Knights head coach has amassed an impressive 400-77 record over his 41-year career.

While Bellar remembers most of his milestones, one that popped up involved one of his sons.

“Number 300, my son was a senior at Pierce in the semi-finals so that was a big game so I remember that well," Bellar said.

The winningest coach in Nebraska football history may have a legendary status in the state but he’s always willing to help a fellow coach out.

“If somebody would need something that I would be willing to say, ‘Yeah, I’ll do anything I can for ya,’ and that’s what coaches did for me," Bellar said.

Bellar acknowledges the milestone but he’s looking forward to the end of the season and, hopefully, hoisting his 11th title with the program.

T-shirts celebrating the coaches 400th win were given to fans and the Knights roster held a sign after the game congratulating the coach on his milestone.
