WAKEFIELD, Neb. -- Authorities responded to a a fire around 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday. 

Wakefield Fire responded along with personnel from surrounding areas. 

The fire took between 35 to 40 personnel from surrounding areas to put out the fire. 

Assisting Wakefield Fire were Allen-Waterbury, Concord/Dixon, Emerson, Wayne, and Pender. Wakefield CVA hauled water to the area. 

Pat Melena, Vice President of Farm Operations for Michael Foods said the fire happened at one of their 10 barns about four miles north of Wakefield. 

"There are 10 barns on this site, and the fire was limited to one of the 10 barns," Melena said. 

He also reported that there were chickens in the barn that were lost, along with the building being destroyed. 

Melena didn't have a number of chickens that were lost. 

There were no injuries to Michael Foods employees or firefighters. 

Fire crews were onsite until 4 p.m. with one remaining afterwards. 

Melena said they were notified of the fire at 11:40 a.m.

As far as building another barn to replace the one lost, Melena said they will be evaluating that.
