NEBRASKA -- With Black Friday approaching, online shopping has already seen an increase and is expected to make another jump for the holidays.

But as Black Friday gets here, how big is online shopping on the day?

Online shopping has seen an increase over the past 20 years.

According to Pew Research, from 1999 to 2023, online sales have leapt to making over $250 billion in the third quarter of 2023.

Signs are tipping for the shopping to increase for the holiday season with retail e-commerce totaling $793.7 billion which is 14.9% of all retail sales.

Some stores have seen increases in online sales in recent years.

The Census Bureau shows non-store retailers make up nearly 62% of online sales totaling $168 billion in 2023.

Some stores have seen dips in sales online including electronic stores, car dealers, and furniture stores with all experiencing 1.6%, 3.2%, and 16.2% respectively.

Nebraska shoppers are also purchasing more items via online stores.

Nearly 46% of all Nebraska residents have made more purchases online.

Stores are expected to be open and ready for shoppers both online and in store for this year's edition of Black Friday.
