NORFOLK, Neb. -- As the gifts have finally been unwrapped this Christmas season, stores are beginning to see their regular customer foot traffic.

But this shopping season brought a spike in sales to Norfolk local shops like Magnolias Home Decor and Design.

"It just depends, every year is different the way Christmas falls and what day of the week, and that will change the dynamic of the shoppers. But, we always see a last minute uptick in the amount of people coming through the doors trying to get those last minute deals and items,” said Owner Amy Renter.

Magnolias has seen steady increase in its online sales this year, attributing many of its holiday sales to its website.

"We've definitely been keeping up the online orders have just grown so much we've shipped to all 50 states,” said Marketing and Operations Manager Kate Zautke. “We have orders from Canada, all over the place so that's been really exciting to grow the store with the online orders."

And despite the inclement weather to follow the holiday, shoppers are taking advantage of post-Christmas deals.

"Well with the little bit of snow that we had, I think if kind of stalled the shoppers for the after Christmas clearance, and today, actually on Wednesday, was busier than Tuesday here at the store,” said Renter. “I think it's been really busy, we've had lots of online orders people choosing local pickup if they were with their families still,” said Zautke.

Extra holiday sales are still expected into the new year as some people have to have a holiday redo.

"I think lots of people also maybe had a postponed Christmas with the snow day,” said Zautke. “So, we had a lot of people saying they're leaving their Christmas decorations up and getting more gifts for New Years Eve Christmas parties, so we'll see a lot of that."

Magnolias attributes its success to its good location in downtown Norfolk since its opening in 2016.

Once the store closes out the season it will shift gears to bring in new designs and decor for the spring.

"If you do take down your Christmas and your house seems 'blah,' we're going to have some very new exciting things to show you just shortly and you can come in and be inspired,” said Renter.
