MADISON, Neb. -- A snowy day outside Madison County Courthouse where Justin Ertzner pleaded not guilty to all four of his charges that were brought against him. Those charges include attempted murder, burglary, terroristic threats, and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

On Thursday afternoon Madison County District Court held an arraignment for 42-year-old Justin Ertzner. Ertzner is charged with four felonies that all stem back from an incident on Sept. 5.

During the incident, Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a relative in distress claiming that Ertzner was drunk and was threatening to kill them.

Upon arrival, deputies reportedly discovered that the door of the house had been broken into. Authorities discovered Ertzner with his hands above his head and proceeded to arrest him.

Authorities said that a gun was recovered at the scene. Ertzner reportedly claimed he unloaded the gun upon police arrival and set it on a table. The unloaded handgun had a magazine laying next to it with 17 rounds inside the clip. Deputies also recovered an unloaded automatic rifle in Ertzner's truck.

What was once a trial for Madison County Court was bound over to District Court on Dec. 12. Thus starting the process all over again. Thursday was Ertzner's arraignment where he was formally presented with his charges.

The four counts Ertzner is being charged with include attempted murder with a maximum prison sentence of 50 years, burglary with a max prison sentence of 20 years, terroristic threats with a max prison sentence of three years, and use of a firearm to commit a felony with a max prison sentence of 50 years.

Ertnzer pleaded “not guilty” to all four of these charges.

Honorable Judge James G. Kube held Ertnzer’s bond at the same amount, standing at 10% of $200,000.

Ertzner is due back in court for the pretrial on March 25, and the actual jury trial for May 13.
