PLAINVIEW, Neb. -- On Monday evening the Plainview Board of Education finally engaged the public when it came to the recent online comments from Arlt. Some voiced their support of the superintendent, and others, some displeased.

Ultimately, Arlt will be returning to Plainview Public Schools as the Superintendent in March after the board announced that “topics of termination are off the table”. This does, however, still come with conditions for Arlt to keep his position.

After a handful of mixed reviews from the public, the board came to a 5-1 vote to keep Arlt in his remaining position.

The board of education claimed there was a majority when it came to the public input on the matter, and it weighed in Arlt’s favor.

“It is not just what our opinions are as board members, we heard you as a community,” said Melissa Doerr, a Board Member. “This is your voice. This is your decision. There was a vast majority of what people wanted to happen here. You were heard.”

The conditions of Arlt’s terms include continuing to work remotely up until March 6th, a one-twelfth reduction of pay for the remaining five pay periods of his contract, discontinuing posting on personal social media, and attending a board-approved educational course on leadership.

Arlt was not at the meeting but did however leave a recorded message for those in attendance.

“Be wise when revealing anything from your heart on social media,” Arlt said.”If you feel you must say it, let it marinate for a bit in your head before you say it. What you say in flame or calm, will it bring hurt or comfort? Is it true? Is it necessary to say?”

The board also claimed that Arlt was generous enough to pay for the educational course himself, as well as share the conditions of his punishment with the public. Arlt will also not be allowed to attend any NSAA events unless it is for an immediate family member.

Arlt will return to Plainview to finish out his contract as the school’s superintendent on March 6.
