LINCOLN, Neb. -- Millard West took down Bellevue West 58-55 Saturday to win its first Class A state title in school history.

The Wildcats went back and forth with the Thunderbirds but were led by junior Neleigh Gessert who had 29 points and shot 10-18 from the field and 5-10 from the three point line. Sophomore Kylee Paben had 13 points with a clutch 5-6 from the free throw line.

The Thunderbirds came close, but came just short of completing an incredible season. Senior Danielle Coyer had 18 points to lead the team with a 3-4 three-point record. 11 points from senior Naomi White and 10 points from senior Ahnica Russell Brown was not enough to propel the Thunderbirds to the win.

The Wildcats, with the game on the line, were pulled ahead by two clutch steals in the final 20 seconds of the game, the team's only two steals of the game.

The teams also moved the ball around well with 11 assists from Millard West and 10 from Bellevue West.
