LINCOLN, Neb. -- Overton joins the list of new state champions as it defeats Wynot 44-40 in the Class D2 State Championship Saturday night.

Overton had a star in the making as senior Natalie Wood led the team with 14 points but had an outstanding 23 rebounds in the game, completing the double-double. Wood out rebounded the entire Wynot team with 23 rebounds while the Blue Devils only had 22 rebounds.

Sophomore Daisy Ryan had 11 points with three out of the four made threes for the team.

Wynot was led by senior Kinslee Heimes who had 18 points and sophomore Kenna Oligmueller with 11 points.

The 14 steals for Wynot, causing 23 Overton turnovers, was still not enough to allow the Blue Devils to finish the game with a win, as the full court pressure from the Eagles made it difficult for Wynot.

As Overton claims a state title in basketball, they also won the state title in volleyball in the fall. Multiple players on the Eagles basketball roster were on the volleyball roster, meaning they can celebrate two titles in one school year, now as first time state champions.
