NORFOLK, Neb. -- Norfolk Police arrested one man in the early hours of Thursday morning for a domestic assault charge.

According to a press release from the Norfolk Police Division, 22-year-old Khumbo Chiniko was arrested after assaulting a woman.

Police said they responded to an apartment in Norfolk for a physical altercation just after midnight Thursday.

When they arrived on the scene, officers were approached by a barefooted woman who "was visibly distraught" and claimed Chiniko had assaulted her.

According to the press release, the woman and Chiniko had gotten into a verbal argument, resulting in the woman packing her items to leave for the night.

However, while packing the woman said Chiniko pushed her onto a bed, held her arms down, and covered her mouth when she attempted to scream.

Police said the struggle continued until the woman was able to call 911 for assistance.

Chiniko was contacted by police about the incident and arrested.

He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail before being transferred to Madison County.
