NPD Police Chief and Captain update
NORFOLK, Neb. -- The City of Norfolk has released an update on the matter of Police Chief Don Miller and Captain Chad Reiman being placed on paid administrative leave.
The City said in a press release that they are releasing this information in an effort for transparency and the protection of employees' rights to privacy.
In the press release it was stated that Miller and Reiman have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations regarding the work environment at the Norfolk Police Division.
In line with the City's commitment to due process, the City Administrator has authorized an outside, neutral investigator to fully explore these allegations against Miller and Reiman.
It was also released that a third individual, Lt. Josh Bauermeister, has also been placed on administrative leave pending the results of this investigation as well.
The City said that while they uphold the highest standards of conduct for all employees and officials, all personnel are entitled to due process and this administrative leave should not be interpreted as a pre-judgment of any kind.
The City stated:
As a matter of policy and to protect the integrity of the investigation, personnel matters are strictly confidential. The City remains dedicated to protecting the privacy rights of all employees and will not disclose any further details regarding the investigation at this time.
During this period, NPD operations and services will continue under the previously announced interim management structure. The City of Norfolk stands with the NPD and its dedicated officers who continue to serve the community. During this period of uncertainty and into the future, the Norfolk Police Division will maintain its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our citizens.
When more information comes available, the City said they will share it.
