Halloween, a night of giving thanks to first responders
NORFOLK, NEB -- Halloween is usually spooky decorations, skeletons, witches, or some type of silly costume. The Perrigan’s who have lived in the country and now reside in the city, decided they wanted to be different when approached by trick or treaters.
Mariah Perrigan said, “If people are coming to our door, why not give them more than candy. As much as Halloween is about having fun and treats, we also want to give them a bible considering my husband is a pastor."
To add to the candy and bible give aways, the Perrigan’s have had many themes in the past to make a fun experience for everyone. Will and Mariah Perrigan have decided to make this year's theme all about the first responders who continue to keep us safe.
While attending, guests will walk through teaching stations about the christian faith and also learn about certain 1st responders duties represented throughout the community.
Will says, “For those who come, you can expect to see Fire and Rescue, Law enforcement, and emergency medicine. With these different agencies, you will also see a fire truck, squad car, and an emergency doctor to view and ask questions to.
Participants not only have a chance to learn about God and the amazing first responders, but they will also be sent home with different literature, engraved scripture dog tags, custom designed hard covered bibles, and lots of candy to enjoy.
This annual event has been put on by the Perrigan family for 17 years, Mariah said, it’s not about candy or dressing up, but the positive feedback we continue to receive which is why we will continue to grow it bigger each year.
The event was held at the Perrigan's home at 621 18th Street in Norfolk from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.
