Norfolk's local 2024 general election results
NORFOLK, Neb. -- In a vote that came down to the wire, Shane Clausen is Norfolk's new mayor.
Clausen won in a tightly contested election that was decided by 546 votes.
He previously served on the city council and often times posed as the 'acting mayor' when Norfolk Mayor Josh Moenning was not present.
Clausen received a total of 5,381 votes. His opponent, Jim McKenzie, received 4,835 votes.
In the primary voting, Clausen only received 33% of the vote, where he trailed behind McKenzie, who had surmounted 43%.
There has also been a shakeup in the Norfolk City Council with both new and old faces.
Council Wards 1 and 2 were awarded to incumbents Kory Hildebrand and Frank Arens.
Council Wards 3 and 4 have new elects.
Jeff Jensen outpaced Justin Snorton for Council Ward 3. Snorton previously held the seat. Jensen won by 349 votes.
Lastly, the Council Ward 4 seat went to Sue Beckman. Beckman defeated Thad Murren by a whopping 488 votes.
Murren also previously served on the council, not winning as an incumbent.
