NORFOLK, Neb. -- 2025 is right around the corner, and winter has been knocking on Nebraska's doorstep for weeks. Many people will find themselves traveling, visiting family, and sharing a New Year’s kiss. To make sure everyone stays safe and alert, the Madison County Sheriff has provided a few tips for staying safe this holiday season.

“Everybody likes to go out and have a little bit of celebration bringing in the new year, getting rid of the old," said Sheriff Todd Volk. "So, we just remind everybody to not drink and drive and to have a designated driver. Slow down because we're going to find a slick spot here. We all know what's going to happen, so just get where you're going and have fun safely.”

There are some cab services available, but if you are going to be having a little more fun than you realize, Volk suggests, “Get a designated driver. That is the best thing. If you’ve got a group of four, you know somebody is going to have to drive.”

Madison County Sheriff's deputies also said, with temperatures dropping throughout the night, please assume roads can be icy and allow yourself time to reach your destination. Stay home if possible, but be careful if you must go out.
