Crimestoppers tip aided police investigation into attempted armed robbery
NEBRASKA CITY- Nebraska City police say a Nebraska City Crimestoppers report assisted in obtaining a search warrant Wednesday that led to the arrest of a suspect in the attempted robbery at NP Mart on Jan. 4.
Police say NP Mart surveillance footage and video from other locations, as well as tips from the public, were used to obtain a no-knock search warrant for a residence at 229 Fourth Terrace. The court has sealed the documents as the case is still under investigation.
Police Chief Benjamin Murry and Capt. Lonnie Neeman said the last known location of the suspect, 45-year-old Christopher Driskell, was at that residence.
Neeman: “We were just following up on leads that indicated a possible suspect had resided at that residence.”
Neeman said a firearm found during the search was not used in the NP Mart incident.
Murry: “There’s others. There are several other things that were taken into evidence that were sent to the lab.”
Chief Murry said weapons and pellet guns were found at the house, but police are still looking for the firearm used in the attempted robbery at the NP Mart.
Murry said police requested the assistance of the Nebraska State Patrol SWAT team based on the facts that a firearm was used in the robbery attempt.
Murry: “A handgun was presented in the video in a fashion that was a threat towards the clerk. We requested the Nebraska State Patrol. The resources they have available through their SWAT team made a safer search warrant and entry into the residence to take the suspects into custody.”
He credited the SWAT team’s involvement for a smooth execution of the search warrant in a manner that was safe to the community and the officers involved.
A police press release says four people were detained and two were arrested. A second person, 47-year-old Enrique Aldana, was arrested on a firearm and methamphetamine charge.
Murry said the Crimestoppers tip line was a benefit in the case.
Murry: “We did get some information through the course of the investigation. Cpt. Neeman had several interviews, we reviewed video from several different locations and we do have several more things that we will follow up on so this investigation is still ongoing.”
The NP Mart clerk told police a man followed her into the store with a handgun, but fled when he realized she was not alone.
Her husband had gone into the store earlier, but she was still outside when the man walked up and said he needed money.
