NORFOLK, Neb. -- Just call it the “Pitch Session II.” Or perhaps “Pitch Session the Sequel.”

However it’s referred to, the Norfolk Family of Funds’ successful inaugural event last fall has spurred plans for a repeat performance this spring.

It’s an opportunity for nonprofit organizations in the Norfolk area that are seeking to raise money for a project or program to make their “pitch” in front of representatives of numerous different entities that have the ability to award grants to worthwhile endeavors.

That’s what happened last fall when the inaugural pitch session took place and, as a result, grants of ranging from $100,000 to smaller amounts were awarded.

At that session, presentations were made by representatives of the iHub project at Northeast Community College, the Norfolk Public Schools’ makerspace program for elementary schools; the Battle Creek Heritage Park improvement project and the Northeast Nebraska Youth Sports Association’s preplanning work for a possible youth sports complex.

The Norfolk Family of Funds (NFOF) is a loosely-knit collaboration of nine different funds associated with the Nebraska Community Foundation. NFOF’s goal is to encourage more philanthropic awareness and giving in the Norfolk area. Businesses, organizations and other foundations not connected with the Nebraska Community Foundation are welcome to take part in NFOF activities.

The pitch session concept is designed to make it easier for groups to seek financial assistance by being able to share information in front of several potential funders in one setting. It also can be convenient for funders to learn about several different charitable projects or programs in one setting.

For nonprofits interested in taking part in this spring’s pitch session, their representatives are asked to provide information about their fundraising project or program, their organization, their history and any other helpful information and share it with NFOF via email by Monday, Feb. 10. Emails should be sent to kentwarneke@gmail.com.

All proposals will be reviewed by NFOF representatives in order to decide which groups will be invited to participate in the pitch session.
