When times are tough, St. Vincent de Paul steps up to help the community
NORFOLK, Neb. -- St. Vincent de Paul in Norfolk has a goal to serve its community when times are tough, and help a neighbor in need.
Their members pray and visit those who are maybe less fortunate or falling on hard times.
They value humility, charity, simplicity (three virtues of Saint Vincent de Paul) and the detachment of one’s own opinion.
St. Vincent De Paul is a charitable arm of the Catholic Church in Norfolk, and devotes their time to provide the community with important resources.
“One way that makes us unique is that we can really meet one on one with that individual and really help with food voucher," said St. Vincent De Paul Vice President Jack Rother. “It can be rental assistance. We help with some transportation. So again. Right, we've helped people get bus tickets to places. We've helped, you know, connect families, whether that's with some type of transportation or maybe it's a medical bill, car repairs. We've had people come in, hey, I need help with this to get back on the road or I'm going to lose my job. And so we try to fit into those situations, in those emergency situations, but we also can't be there every month to help and provide something. So we're also trying to connect them with other agencies in the community that help them moving forward.”
With the help of many donations brought in throughout the year, St. Vincent De Paul has helped over three hundred people a month.
