O'Neill man dies in single-vehicle accident Wednesday evening

NELIGH, Neb. -- An O'Neill man died following a single-vehicle accident Wednesday evening in Neligh.
The Antelope County Sheriff's Office said they got a 911 call about an accident on Highway 275, half a mile east of Neligh.
The Sheriff's Office said that Steven Binkerd, of O'Neill, was driving a GMC Sierra pickup when he slightly drifted onto the shoulder of the road.
After going onto the shoulder, he tried to steer back into the lane, but he overcorrected. This caused the vehicle to lose control on the icy road.
The truck then went into the east lane and into the south ditch, where he hit a power pole.
Binkerd was pronounced dead at the scene.
This is an ongoing investigation.
The Holt County Sheriff's Office posted on their Facebook page that Binkerd was a Deputy for them at the time of his death.
His funeral services are pending.
