CHEYENNE, Wyo. - A Burns man died Friday evening after his pickup collided with a stationary train on County Road 154 just north of Interstate 80, according to the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 5:21 p.m. Nov. 28 for a report of a vehicle-versus-train crash. Investigators said a train was stopped across the roadway with the crossing gate down and warning lights flashing when a pickup traveling northbound struck the side of the rail cars.

The driver, identified as 45-year-old John Balczewski of Burns, was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. Medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Deputies trained in crash reconstruction documented the site Friday night, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The sheriff’s office extended condolences to Balczewski’s family and friends.
