Nebraska State Patrol arrests 83 impaired drivers during holiday enforcement campaign
LINCOLN, Neb. - Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol arrested 83 impaired drivers during a statewide holiday enforcement effort tied to the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, according to a release issued Jan. 2.
The campaign ran from Dec. 10 through Jan. 1 and involved dozens of law enforcement agencies across Nebraska, along with agencies nationwide. The effort was supported in part by grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
In addition to the 83 arrests for driving under the influence, troopers issued 1,752 citations for speeding, 107 for driving under suspension, 60 for open alcohol container violations, 34 for minor in possession of alcohol, 61 for seat belt violations and 16 for improper child restraint. Troopers also stopped 81 drivers for traveling more than 100 miles per hour.
During the same period, troopers performed 683 motorist assists across the state.
“With the holiday season behind us and a new year beginning, now is an ideal time to renew your commitment to safe driving,” said Col. Bryan Waugh, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Every time you drive, ensure you’re prepared for safety: Eliminate distractions, monitor your speed, buckle up and always drive sober.”
Waugh said Nebraska saw an 11% reduction in fatal crashes by the end of 2025, crediting enforcement campaigns and partnerships with state and local agencies.
The Nebraska State Patrol encouraged motorists to prepare for winter driving conditions, check Nebraska 511 for road updates and call *55 to reach the NSP Highway Helpline if stranded.
