New county clerk, assessor, treasurer take oath of office
SIDNEY -- A process that began last fall with two resignations/retirements moved to the next level today.
The interim Cheyenne County Assessor, Treasurer and Clerk took their oath of office today. Sheila Von Seggern is the interim Treasurer, Christina Lotton Assessor and Jordan Hajek is the County Clerk.
Von Seggern and Lotton were promoted from within their offices in an interview process.
"I feel honored. I get to serve the citizens of Cheyenne County, and I'm honored to be able to follow in Shelley and Diane's footsteps. They were both great examples," said Von Seggern
Lotton also credits her time working in the Assessor's office for preparing her to be Assessor as she reacted to taking the oath of office this morning.
"It feels good; very, very proud to take the oath this morning and to serve the citizens of Cheyenne County as their new assessor for the next year," she said.
Jordan Hajek transferred from the role of County Assessor to County Clerk.
"It's relieving. It feels great to be part of the bigger picture in Cheyenne County and I'm excited to follow in Beth's footsteps but nobody can replace Beth," Hajek said.
She said the three offices work together and will continue to do so.
"One of the benefits with me getting this job is I already work ... the Assessor's Office works very closely with the Clerk's Office at certain aspects of the job, and works with the Treasurer's Office as well. So with the three of us in our prior roles already working together, it's just going to be a very smooth transition," Hajek said.
Cheyenne County Treasurer Shelley Bowlin announced her resignation in August. County Clerk Beth Fiegenschuh then submitted her resignation in September.
Applications were taken for each position with interviews conducted by the Cheyenne County commissioners. Each candidate was asked if they would seek election for the office.
