NORFOLK, Neb.- A Norfolk company donated grain bin rescue equipment to multiple rural fire departments.

Summit Contracting out of Norfolk donated Res-Q-Tubes and other equipment to the Carroll, Winside, and Osmond Volunteer Fire Departments.

Winside also received a rescue auger, as did Osmond, who already had a Res-Q-Tube.

The Res-Q-Tube is a device used to efficiently and safely get someone out after being trapped in a bin, and the auger assists.

Between 2007 and 2023, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln reports nearly 575 documented grain entrapments, an average of 33 per year nationally.
